# Extra runs (pay as you go)

Every plan includes a monthly run allowance - 500 on Free, 5,000 on Starter, 15,000 on Grow, and unlimited on Unlimited. **Extra runs** let you keep going past that allowance without switching plans: you pay only for the runs you go over.

## Turn it on

On the **dashboard**, find the **Extra runs** card:

1. Switch on **Allow paid extra runs beyond my plan**.
2. Optionally set **Max extra runs per 30 days** - a safety cap so a busy spell can't run up a surprise bill. Leave it blank for no self-limit.
3. **Save.**

Extra runs are **off by default**. While off, any run beyond your allowance is turned away until your rolling 30-day total drops back under the limit.

## How you're billed

- Only runs **above** your plan's included allowance are billed - everything within your allowance stays free.
- **Test runs, manual runs, and API/MCP runs never count.** Only runs from Shopify Flow and [Run a function on a schedule](https://docs.workflow-functions.app/scheduled-functions.md) use your allowance and can become extra runs.
- Extra runs are billed through Shopify as usage on your regular app subscription, at the rate shown on the app's pricing page, and appear on your Shopify invoice.
- If you set a monthly cap and reach it, extra runs pause (just as when the feature is off) until the window frees up or you raise the cap.

## Good to know

- Extra runs use the same **rolling 30-day** window as your plan allowance, not a calendar month.
- **Unlimited** plans have no allowance to exceed, so there is nothing to enable.
- Changing your plan changes your included allowance; your Extra runs setting stays as you left it.

Prefer a bigger included allowance instead? Change your plan from the **Current plan** card on the dashboard.
